WAYNE COUNTY, MI. (THECOUNT) — Atiya Nina Muhammed of Inkster, Michigan, has been identified as the mother facing multiple felony charges in the alleged fatal stabbing of her 3-year-old son, Zion Reid.

Prosecutors say, Muhammed, 26, is charged with first-degree premeditated murder, murder, first-degree child abuse and torture in the death of her toddler.

Police found Reid in a bedroom of his home in a state of decomposition Wednesday. It’s unclear how long the boy had been deceased.

Relatives made the grisly discovery after performing a welfare check at Muhammed’s home after she had not been seen in several days. Muhammed was not at the home at the time but was apprehended Wednesday at an area hotel.

Medical examiners concluded that the boy died from multiple stab wounds and blunt force trauma.

Muhammed is due to appear in front of a judge on Monday.
