LEE COUNTY, AL. (THECOUNT) — David Darnell and his daughter Abbey, of Beulah, Alabama, have been identified as the victims in a double-fatal crash on Interstate 85 in Lee County on Thursday afternoon.
Darnell, 49, and his 16-year-old daughter, were both killed in a multi-vehicle crash near Opelika, Alabama crash on Thursday.

According to Opelika officials, Darnell and his daughter had arrived to the scene of his daughter’s disabled vehicle on I-85, which had experienced a flat tire earlier in the day, when the vehicle was struck from behind by a pickup truck. The force of the crash pushed Darnell’s vehicle into the disabled vehicle.
Darnell and Abbey were both pronounced dead at the scene of blunt force trauma injuries.
The pickup driver was transported to an area hospital for unknown injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
