AMERICUS, GA. (THECOUNT) — La’Warrior Gardener has been identified as the victim in a fatal Saturday shooting in Americus, Georgia. Demonte Everett Mayes Jr., was arrested in the shooting death and abduction of a his 2-month-old biological child, Draco. The child was recovered and is safe.
Mayes, 23, was arrested and charged in the Americus homicide and child abduction.

Gardener, 21, was found suffering from gunshot injuries at a home in the 100 block of Carter Street. He was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead of gunshot injuries.
Police said Mayes shot Gardener and then abducted his toddler and fled the scene.
An Amber Alert for the missing child was issued Saturday morning.
The suspect’s vehicle was spotted going west on US Highway 80 between Montgomery and Selma, Ala. by the Alabama Highway Patrol, reports WALB.
Mayes was taken into custody. The child was recovered and appears to be unharmed.
Mayes was charged with murder, multiple counts of aggravated assault and kidnapping. Police said additional charges may be added.
