NEW CASTLE, DE. (THECOUNT) — Lavon Stewart, of Wilmington, Delaware, has been identified as the pedestrian fatally struck Tuesday by a vehicle in New Castle, Delaware.

Stewart, 20, was killed after he was struck by a Chevy vehicle operated by a 50-year-old New Castle driver on Tuesday.

According to Delaware State Police, the crash occurred at approximately 6:46 a.m., Tuesday, January 7, 2020 on Christiana Rd. near Churchmans Rd in New Castle.

Police say, the New Castle man was travelling westbound on Christiana Rd., in the left lane, west of Churchmans Rd at the same time Stewart was on-foot attempting to cross Christiana Rd.

Stewart proceeded directly into the path of the Chevy. The front end of the Chevy struck the victim, throwing him to the ground in the left lane of travel where he came to rest.

After the collision the Chevy came to a controlled stop and remained at the scene.

Stewart was pronounced dead at the scene.

No one was cited at the scene.

The cause of the deadly incident remains under investigation.
