WARREN, OH. (THECOUNT) — Ohio fire officials say the Champion Skate roller rink, in Warren, Ohio, has been completely destroyed in a Sunday morning blaze.

Fire crews responded to a call of flames at the Champion Township rink around 1:30 a.m. Sunday to find the business fully engulfed.

Officials said the building is a total loss.

According to Champion Fire Chief John Hickey, by the time crews arrived, the fire was so intense that they could only fight it from outside.

“This was built in the, original part was built in the 60’s, and a lot of wood, obviously the wood floor. The foam. They had a lot of decorative material in there. So, it spread pretty quick and I wasn’t willing to put my guy’s safety at risk,” said Hickey.

The rink is located at, 5040 Mahoning Ave NW in Warren, OH.

It’s unknown at this time what started the fire.

The fire is still considered active and the road will remain closed due to the use of fire hydrants and fire trucks on scene, reports WKBN.
