FULTON COUNTY, IN. (THECOUNT) — Alyssa Shepherd, 24, of Rochester, who was charged with reckless homicide while passing a school bus, has been sentenced to 3 years in prison, according to Wednesday reports.

Six-year-old twin boys, Xzavier & Mason Ingle, and their sister Alivia Stahl, 9, were struck and killed while boarding the school bus near 4600 N. State Road 25 in Rochester, Ind.

She faced more than 20 years in prison.

WSBT reports that the mother of the three children, Brittany Ingle, was charged with misdemeanor battery after she allegedly lunged at Shepherd in the courtroom. Ingle was reportedly taken out in the handcuffs, reports WGN.

(ORIGINAL STORY:) Three children boarding a school bus Tuesday were hit and killed by a vehicle in Rochester, Fulton County, Indiana, according to news reports.

Reports say, said the three children were members of the same family.

A fourth child was injured and taken by helicopter to a nearby hospital.

The vehicle was driving in the opposite direction. The crash happened around 7:30 a.m. local time. source

Police said the bus had its stop sign deployed.

The Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation released the following statement following the crash:

Our school corporation has suffered a tragedy this morning. We have learned of three student fatalities and one student seriously injured and airlifted to a Fort Wayne hospital as they were hit by a vehicle while boarding their bus.

We have deployed all school counselors to meet the emotional needs of our staff, students and parents.

We are awaiting to learn more confirmed details but wish to ask the community to come together to pray for the families, our students and our staff.
