CLEVELAND, OH. (THECOUNT) — According to family members of Vonnaisha Akins, the boyfriend of the mother found dead on the side of Interstate 90 in downtown Cleveland, has been arrested on suspicion of tampering with evidence.

A 28-year-old man was arrested late Tuesday on suspicion of tampering with evidence and obstructing justice, according to police records. He has not been formally charged with a crime.

The man is the boyfriend of Akins, 21, according to family members. The two had been dating for a few months, family members said on Tuesday.

Akins was pregnant and the mother of a 4-year-old daughter, family members said. She recently chose a new career path and started classes the day she died to become a nurse’s assistant, family member said.

Akins was found dead about 5 p.m. Monday on the side of I-90 near the Carnegie Avenue exit, police said. Someone threw her from a car, according to Cleveland.

Police and the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s office have not yet determined how Akins died.
