HOLLYWOOD, CA. (THECOUNT) — The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) fines ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ for using the ‘presidential alert tones’ to poke fun at the president, which resulted in the network receiving a nearly $400,000 fine reported Fox News.
Their statement: “We remain concerned about the misuse of the EAS codes and EAS and WEA Attention Signals, or simulations thereof, to capture audience attention during advertisements; dramatic, entertainment and educational programs, and at any other time that there is no genuine alert,” the agency said. “The FCC may issue sanctions for such violations, including, but not limited to, monetary forfeitures.”

The late-night comedy show starring the comedian Jimmy Kimmel, used this tone three times during their comedy sketch on Oct. 23, 2018. On that same day, almost 225 million electronic devices in the U.S. got the text message reading “Presidential Alert” followed by”THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed.”The network said the tones were not properly used in the episode mentioned.
