BISHOP, TX. (THECOUNT) — Mario Alberto Benevides, of Kingsville, Texas and a two-year-old toddler, have been identified as the victims in a double-fatal head-on crash near Bishop, Texas on Friday.
Benevides, 18, was traveling in a vehicle along with a toddler on FM-70 near CR-73 near Bishop, Texas, when the collision occurred after 11:00 p.m. Friday night.

According to officials, Benevides’ vehicle was traveling on FM-70, when for unknown reasons, it crossed centerlines and exited the roadway into opposing lanes.
A vehicle containing two individuals that was traveling in the opposite direction attempted to avoid the wrong-way vehicle, but failed. Both vehicles collided head-on.
Benevides and the two-year-old toddler, who were inside the wrong-way vehicle, were pronounced dead at the scene of multiple blunt force trauma injuries.
A crash report determined that the two-year-old child was seated inside of a car seat at the time of the crash.
Local press outlets identified the victim as “Mario Alberto Benevidez,” from Kingsville.
According to a first responder at the scene, two people were transported via HALO to Christus Spohn Shoreline. At this time, their medical conditions are unknown, reports KRISTV.
The crash remains under investigation.
