CECIL COUNTY, MD. (THECOUNT) — Anthony Shackelford, of Elkton, Maryland, has been identified as the adult male killed in Cecil County crash Thursday night. The crash also left two children dead and several others fighting for their lives.
“Tony” Shackelford, 34, was killed in an Elkton crash that occurred around 9:30 p.m. in the 600 block of Mechanics Valley Road near North East, according to the sheriff’s office.

A Saturn was traveling on Mechanics Valley Road occupied by six people, when for unknown reasons, the vehicle spun out of control and was struck by a pickup, according to the sheriff’s office.
A 4-year-old boy was dead at the scene and a 10-year-old girl died later at Union Hospital, the sheriff’s office said.
Shackelford was pronounced dead at the scene of multiple blunt force trauma injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.
A 9-year-old boy was taken first to Union Hospital and then flown to Johns Hopkins in critical condition. A 13-year-old boy was flown to Nemours/A.I. DuPont Hospital for Children in critical condition. Mary Shackelford, a 53-year-old from Elkton, was flown to the University of Maryland’s R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in critical condition. The pickup driver, a 24-year-old from Elkton, was hospitalized in Delaware with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the sheriff’s office, source DelawareOnline.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
