CHICAGO RIDGE, IL. (THECOUNT) — The Cook County Sheriff’s deputy killed in an early morning two-vehicle crash in Chicago Ridge has been identified as James Koch.
Koch, whose age was not provided, died while off-duty in a vehicle crash in Chicago Ridge early Saturday morning while on his way home from work just after midnight.

Chicago Ridge police responded to a report of a car accident in the 10100 block of Virginia Avenue at 12:04 a.m. When officers rolled up to the scene, they discovered a heavily damaged 2015 Nissan and 2002 Chevrolet. Police said that a 16-year-old juvenile had crashed into the Chevy, reports Patch.
Koch became entrapped in his vehicle as a result of the violent crash, say reports.
Fire crews used a spreader tool to remove Koch from his vehicle.
He was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead of multiple blunt force trauma injuries.
A Chicago Ridge resident, Koch was off-duty at the time of the wreck and was on his way home after completing his shift.
A juvenile was taken into custody at the scene pending “further investigation.” Charges are pending in the fatal incident, officials confirmed.
The Illinois State Police Accident Reconstruction Team is assisting in the investigation.
