BLADEN COUNTY, NC. (THECOUNT) — Aldo Hernandez has been identified as the West Bladen High School student killed in a Sunday crash in Bladenboro.

Hernandez, 18, was traveling as a passenger in a car driven by an unidentified 17-year old student from Bladenboro when the fatal collision happened Sunday afternoon.

What we know is the crash occurred on Butler Mill Road on Sunday after 1:30 p.m., according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

The female driver exited the roadway for unknown reasons, struck a ditch and rolled over.

Hernandez was ejected from the vehicle during the violent crash.

He was pronounced dead of blunt force trauma injuries.

West Bladen High School announced the sad news on their Facebook page on Monday.

According to the letter to the “West Bladen High School family” from principal Peggy Hester posted to the school district’s Facebook page, 11th grader Aldo Hernandez died yesterday afternoon, reports WWAYTV3.

The letter says additional guidance counselors were at the school yesterday to help students deal with the loss.

“As a parent, I encourage you to take time to talk with your child, allowing them to share their thoughts and feelings,” Hester wrote. “If you need additional assistance from our administrative or guidance teams, please feel free to contact us (910) 862-2130.”

Hester also asked everyone to keep the Hernandez family in their thoughts.

The investigation is continuing and charges are pending, according to BladenOnline.
