Police in eastern Berks County say they responded to the S Reading Avenue at around 10 p.m. on the BF’s call of shots fired.

Waber reportedly fled the scene in a vehicle and fatally shot herself while driving, police said this morning.

Douglass police said they were initially told Waber, of West Grove departed on-foot. But while responding, they said they saw her SUV had crashed in the 1200 block of Reading Avenue, which is Route 562, about 1 1/2 miles from the victims’ home, reports ReadingEagle.

According to police:

Officers approached the SUV with their guns drawn and noticed Waber was unresponsive from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Police smashed two windows to reach her and render first aid.

Waber was taken by ambulance to Reading Hospital and pronounced dead by an emergency room doctor at 12:36 a.m. Monday.

Douglass police impounded the vehicle and the gun and contacted the Berks County district attorney’s office.

The ex-boyfriend, who is 50, had called police earlier in the evening to report that Waber was harassing him by calling him from different phone numbers and sending him electronic messages. She then showed up at the house.

The boyfriend told police they had dated about two years ago, but the woman had recently begun harassing him.

The investigation is ongoing.
