SHREVEPORT, LA. (THECOUNT) — Chateri Payne, the female Shreveport police officer shot and killed as she prepared to leave for work last Wednesday, was “romantically involved,” with Treveon Anderson, 26, the suspect who accomplice, Lawrence Pierre, claims, was the shooter in the deadly incident, ksla reported Wednesday morning.

Reports say, Payne was shot at least four times, including at least once in the head, in a targeted shooting. It is unclear if Payne’s new employment as a Shreveport police officer, played a factor in her death.

The cousin of a suspect accused in the murder of a Shreveport police officer admitted to being present and took investigators to the murder weapon, according to ksla.

Records reveal that Lawrence Pierre of Shreveport told investigators that Treveon Anderson, 26, killed Officer Chateri Payne in her driveway on January 9. Payne was shot multiple times with a handgun.

The shooting occurred around 8:20 p.m. in the 1600 block of Midway Avenue between Bernstein and Linwood avenues.

Payne was about to get in her patrol vehicle when she was shot. The vehicle was running.

Some reporting said Anderson and the fallen officer had a child together. According to that reporting, a child was taken into custody at the scene. TheCount.com has not independently verified those claims.

More than 50 police units responded to the shooting along with more than 10 Caddo Parish deputies.

Payne was transported to an area hospital where she was later pronounced dead of gunshot injuries.
