WINSTON-SALEM, NC. (THECOUNT) — Winston-Salem Police Cpl. Kevin Shay, of Clemmons, died unexpectedly Friday, according to reports.
Shay, 39, is survived by his wife, son, mother, two sisters, two brothers, two step-daughters, step-son, step-granddaughter and step-grandson, as well as nieces and nephews, according to his obit.

Shay was originally North Bellmore, New York.
Inspired by what took place on Sept. 11, 2001, he joined the United States Marine Corps and became a sergeant. He served two tours in Iraq.
After, he moved to North Carolina and began his work with the Winston-Salem Police Department.

Shay a corporal with WSPD’s Traffic Enforcement Unit and he served the music department of Overflow Church in Winston-Salem where he was a member.
Funeral services for Cpl. Shay will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, November 16, 2018 at Winston-Salem First, 3730 University Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27106 with Pastor Bryan Hullette officiating. Interment will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery, 8115 Old Lexington Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27107. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Overflow Church, 8115 Old Lexington Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27107 to assist with their community playground project.
