CASS COUNTY, MI. (THECOUNT) — Taleena Smaltz has been identified as the victim killed while riding a bicycle on U.S.-12 in Edwardsburg, MI, Thursday.
Police say they are investigating following a fatal bicycle-vs-auto crash involving 50-year-old, Smaltz, and a vehicle on U.S. 12 near Edwardsburg, MI.

The crash happened around 7:33 a.m. Thursday in the 25000 block of U.S. 12, Edwardsburg, MI.
A 50-year-old Edwardsburg woman who police have identified as Taleena Smaltz was heading westbound on U.S. 12 when she was hit by a vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene. source
An initial investigation concluded Smaltz was riding her bike “near the fog line.”
Police say the driver, 40-year-old Charles McCarthy, of Cassopolis, was also driving west on U.S. 12 at the time of the collision. McCarthy is cooperating with police.
Investigators don’t believe drugs or alcohol are involved.
The death report noted that the victim was not wearing a helmet or reflective gear at the time of the accident.
The crash is still under investigation.
