LAKE PERRY, KS. (THECOUNT) — Jason Michael Southard, of Denver, Colorado, has been identified as the victim who died while visiting a Lake Perry, Kansas on Sunday afternoon, authorities say.

Southard, 42, was named as the victim who was apparently swimming at the Party Cove area when he began calling for help. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office in Kansas has not yet determined the cause of death.

When the friends pulled him into a boat he was not breathing, Kaufman said in a statement. They attempted to resuscitate him but were unable to do so, according to a statement by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office in Kansas. The friends made their way to the south Slough Creek boat ramp. source

Friends say they called the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office at 2:12 p.m. Sunday, the statement says. When paramedics arrived at the boat ramp they attempted advanced life support but Southard never regained consciousness.

Southard was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kansas Wildlife and Parks and sheriff’s investigators are investigating Southard’s death.
