SOUTHINGTON, CT (THECOUNT) – Southington, CT., woman, Michelle Barrett, was identified as the victim in a fatal weekend shooting in the Plantsville section of Southington.

Barrett, 41, was found shot dead in the front yard area of a Manor Road, Plantsville, CT, residence after police arrived to perform a welfare check around 6:00 a.m. Sunday.

Barrett reportedly suffered a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Simultaneously, Naugatuck police say a man arrived at their police department and shot himself in the parking lot in what is believed to be an attempted suicide.

Robert DeSantis, 40, was transported to an area hospital suffering from a single gunshot wound. His condition was not immediately made available.

Police confirmed that the two deaths were connected.

Neighbors reportedly told police that they heard screams during the incident:

“One of the neighbors down there said that he heard a gunshot at 1:00 in the morning and somebody scream,” said Fred Frost of Southington. source

It’s unclear if the woman resided at the home.

The state’s attorney’s office was assigned to the case.

Southington is a town in Hartford County, Connecticut, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, it had a population of 43,069. Southington contains the villages of Marion, Milldale, and Plantsville, according to wikipedia.
