Former gymnast McKayla Maroney joined the “#MeToo” social media campaign by saying she too was molested by former USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar.
In a Twitter post published early Wednesday morning, Maroney detailed “years of sexual abuse,” at the hands of Nassar. I one such recounting, Maroney said she “thought she would die,” when finding herself alone in a hotel room with Nassar.

“Everyone’s words over the past few days have been so inspiring to me,” Maroney wrote. “I know how hard it is to speak publicly about something so horrible, and so personal, because it’s happened to me too. People should know that this is not just happening in Hollywood. This is happening everywhere. Wherever there is a position of power, there seems to be potential for abuse.” source
The #MeToo hashtag, which was originally created by activist Tarana Burke, went viral on Sunday after actress Alyssa Milano wrote a call-out on Twitter asking followers to share their stories of sexual harassment and assault using the phrase “Me too.”
Maroney is best known for being a part of the Fierce Five at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London and for her “not impressed” face after winning silver also in 2012.
