Police say it appears Freshwater did not see the SUV. They say he went into the intersection in front of the vehicle.
This morning, Marshalltown firefighters posted on Facebook, “Our thoughts and prayers go out to all the members of Greg Freshwater’s friends and family as well as all members of Waterloo Fire Rescue. RIP Greg a young man gone far far beyond his time.”
According to a Facebook post, (below,) Freshwater was an amature football player with the Cedar Valley Charge, a minor league football team located in Waterloo, IA. It is not clear whether Freshwater was still a member of the team at the time of his death, or whether or not the team is still in operation. A visit to the team website comes up unreachable.
Waterloo police have not released the name of the driver.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends at this difficult time.
