Police on Wednesday identified Michelle Chalk as the 15-year-old student who was killed when a tree fell on her in a freak accident in Ft. Thomas Tuesday night.

Chalk, an aspiring ballet dancer, was relaxing on a backyard hammock when the two trees it was connected to collapsed on top of her, according to Campbell County police. She was reportedly dead moments after the incident occurred on Pebble Creek Drive, police said.

She would have been a freshman at Highlands High School when classes begin later this month. Grief counselors are on hand at the school all day Thursday, and a vigil is being planned.

The second juvenile was not seriously injured.

It is unclear what caused the tree to suddenly collapse.

Chalk danced with the Cincinnati Ballet and was described as a vibrant dancer by the company.

“We are deeply saddened to lose Michelle who was a vibrant and beloved member of our young performers cast,” said Victoria Morgan, Artistic Director, Cincinnati Ballet. “She danced in our Nutcracker performances each year since 2013 and was most recently featured as lead soldier in our 2016 production. Our condolences go out to Michelle’s family during this difficult time.” source
