Two rush hour trains collided and derailed near a Fairfield, Conn., train station and there are preliminary reports of injuries, a Metro North Railroad and Long Island Railroad spokesperson says.
The trains collided in what is being called a “major derailment” at about 6:10 p.m. when an eastbound train out of New Haven hit a westbound train on the adjacent track. The collision happened near Commerce Avenue and State Street, in between the Fairfield and Bridgeport stations.There are scanner reports of injuries and multiple ambulances are on the scene. Amtrak service on the Northeast Corridor is severely delayed, and there is no Metro-North service between Stamford and New Haven, trains en route are being stopped at the nearest station. foxnews
