CASS COUNTY, TX. (THECOUNT) — Billy Buck Pierce, of White Hall, Arkansas, has been identified as the victim of a fatal crash in Cass County, Texas on Tuesday.

Pierce, 53, was named as the passenger killed following a two-vehicle head-on crash involving a tractor-trailer in Cass County, around 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Troopers responded to calls of a crash on US Highway 59 in Cass County, Tuesday afternoon.

Troopers determined the driver of an SUV, Jordan Pierce, 28, of White Hall, for unknown reasons, turned into the path of a semi traveling in the opposite direction striking it head-on.

DPS says the driver of the big rig attempted to take evasive action but was unable to avoid the collision.

Officials say the roadways may have been slick by recent rains when the accident occurred.

Jordan Pierce was was transported to an area hospital with moderate injuries, reported CBS19.

Billy Buck Pierce was also transported to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead of blunt force trauma suffered in the violent crash.

The truck driver was not injured in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
