Uber ceased operations in Nevada late Wednesday displacing thousands of potential riders and leaving hundreds of drivers suddenly out of work for the holidays..
Uber vowed to return but only after it finds a clear path to operating legally in the state.
An Uber company spokeswoman issued an emailed statement just after 10 p.m.
“It’s unfortunate that Nevada is the first state in the nation to temporarily suspend Uber,” said spokeswoman Eva Behrend. “That means nearly 1,000 jobs just disappeared overnight and those residents lost their ability to earn a living. On the eve of Thanksgiving, when Nevadans should be celebrating with family, now many are worried about how they’re going to pay their bills.” h/t reviewjournal
On Monday, a panel of the Nevada Supreme Court, in a split vote, directed the Washoe County court to hear the case. Uber officials had argued before the high court for the case to be heard in Clark County where Judge Douglas Herndon heard a similar pleading and opted not to issue an injunction.
The following is the actual email drivers received informing them of the decision..

Thank you for driving on the Uber platform and being committed to expanding competition and choice in the Silver State. You have gotten Uber off to an amazing start and are literally on the front lines of evolving the Nevada transportation ecosystem so that it benefits everyone that lives and works here, no matter when or where they want to go.
Uber received a temporary court order today suspending our operations in Nevada and your ability to partner on the platform – that means that effective immediately you will no longer be able to accept rides on the platform – however that doesn’t mean we’ve stopped fighting for you. Right now the Uber team is working on solutions to this temporary suspension – our only priority is getting you back out on the road so you can continue to earn a living, pay your bills and put income in your pocket. We will not rest until you have the right to create your own small business on the Uber platform and until every Nevadan has the freedom to choose a safer and more reliable transportation option – riding with you.
We are working tirelessly to fight for the freedom, flexibility and opportunity Uber provides to driver partners like you.
Rest assured, we are committed to you and getting you back on the road as soon as possible. We are in this with you for the long-haul.
Thank you for partnering with Uber!
