Joe Hicks, a black conservative and community activist from Los Angeles, died Sunday. He was 75.
Hicks passed away at Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica following complications after a routine hernia operation.
In recent years Hicks — with his bald head and thick mustache — had become a familiar right-wing pundit in debates over the high-profile shooting deaths of black people at the hands of police officers. Continue reading

Police just released these photos of a pair of male and female suspects who brutally attacked DePaul University freshman student, Jessica Hughes, after she refused to hand over her iphone.
Hughes, 19, was minding her own business while riding the Blue Line this week when she was attacked. She sustained multiple injuries during the beating including a broken nose and black eye.

The wife of Eagles co-founder Randy Meisner, Lana Ray Meisner, is dead after a rifle accidentally discharged as she moved it from a closet, the Los Angeles Police Department said.
Lana Meisner was found in her home, that she shares with Randy, with a fatal gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene by L.A. Fire Department personnel.

Bernie Sanders has found himself in a social uproar after answering a question on race during Sunday’s CNN hosted Democratic debate.
The question posed to Sanders was, “What racial blind spots do you have?” The candidate answered, “When you are white…You don’t know what it’s like to be poor.”
“When you are white, you don’t know what it’s like to be living in a ghetto, you don’t know what it’s like to be poor, you don’t know what it’s like to be hassled when you are walking down a street or dragged out of a car,” Sanders said when asked about his personal racial blind spots. Black Lives Matter activist MarShawn McCarrel committed suicide, shooting himself on the steps shot of the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus.
MarShawn, 23, and his mother had recently attended the NAACP awards for his work organizing protests in Ohio after Michael Brown’s shooting in 2014.
