Six people are dead and another seven are missing after a freak flash flood washed away their vehicles in Hildale, Utah, the fire department confirmed. The dead and missing are all mothers and small children. The youngest child being 4 years old.

The small community, known for following strict polygamist Mormon values, straddles the border between Hildale, Utah, and Colorado City, Arizona.

Most of the people who live in the community are members of the Warren Jeffs polygamist sect known as the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (FLDS)The flash flood started with heavy rains in the canyons above Hildale, Barlow said. The rush of water was so intense it washed two vehicles downstream. The two vehicles were carrying 16 people, Barlow said.
