FREMONT COUNTY, IA (THECOUNT) — Austin “Melvin” Richardson has been identified as the Fremont County Sheriff’s deputy killed in a Tuesday vehicle crash in Fremont County.
Richardson, 37, was killed in a two-vehicle crash in Fremont County Tuesday afternoon.
According to reports, Richardson was operating a vehicle on U.S. 275 near 260th Street in Fremont County, when the vehicle came into contact with a vehicle operated by 64-year-old James Groff around 12:38 p.m. Tuesday.
Richardson died in the collision according to police.
Groff’s condition was not provided.
It is unclear if Richardson was on-duty at the time of the wreck.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
