FL Woman Velvet Floyd Burns ID’d As Victim Found Murdered In Jacksonville Home Thursday

JACKSONVILLE, FL. (THECOUNT) — Velvet Floyd Burns has been identified as victim found dead inside a Jacksonville home on Thursday afternoon.

Burns, 44, was found deceased by detectives who were called to a home in the 8800 block of Doris Lane, ib Jacksonville, FL, after 1 p.m. Thursday.

Officials offered no possible cause or circumstances in her death.

A neighbor said she and another person who lived on the dead-end road off Commonwealth Avenue saw a dark vehicle on the street with its headlights off about 4 a.m., just a half-hour after the victim’s husband left on an out-of-town job, reports Jacksonville.

The neighbor said she was told it was an apparent break-in and she was found early that afternoon.

Her son Kolby Burns posted a touching tribute to his mother on Facebook:

“Momma I don’t know really what to say at this point. I’ve been at a lost for words. I never thought you would be taken from my life so fast. I was supposed to go eat with you Friday and I had this lunch planned out for you today for Mother’s Day. I know you taught me to be strong. I love you so much momma. I know we never saw eye to eye on a lot of stuff but there was not a day that went by that I didn’t know you loved me and that you wanted the best for me. We got into arguments over some stupid stuff but there were also all the times me and you could sit there and talk to each other for hours. I knew if there was someone I need to talk to no matter how hard it was to talk about it I could go to you and you would always have the answer and if not right then an there you always told me “keep your head son, there may not be a answer now but you soon will get one.” There was never a day that went by that you didn’t have a smile on your face. You could be having one of the worst days but it didn’t matter because you had a smile on your face. You are one of the strongest people I know. I Will never be able to describe how much I love you. I wish so much that I was there to protect you. I always told you that I would be there to protect you from everything that could harm you. I failed you on that and I’m sorry momma. Ik your in a better place now but I wish I was able to talk to you just one more time and tell you that I love you more than words can describe. I know I’ve been strong and have not been showing emotion but mommy that’s how you raised me. You raised me to be strong for everyone else and hold everyone up on my shoulders and fight and make sure everyone was okay. You told me there was a time to fight and there was a time to let things out. I will never ever know why you got taken from my life so soon and mommy I promise there will be justice for what happen to you. I love you to the moon and back. There is nobody in this world that can replace you or the bond we had. Thank you for always being there when I needed you and helping me fight all these battles over the year. This is not goodbye forever mom it is only goodbye for now. I will see you again one day and I promise to always make you proud of me.
