SOUTH WHITEHALL, PA. (THECOUNT) — Officials have identified New Jersey man, Joseph Santos, of Hasbrouck Heights, as the victim shot and killed by police in Lehigh County, PA., on Saturday.
Santos, 44, was reportedly “damaging cars and interfering with traffic,” when he was shot dead in South Whitehall Township around 5:45 p.m. Saturday.
Witnesses said the man had broken the window of one vehicle and done other damage before being confronted by a police officer. That officer later opened fire, striking Santos at least once. source
Santos was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead as a result of injuries suffered in the shooting.
A death investigation is ongoing.
An autopsy is planned for Tuesday.
