VA Man Joseph Skinner ID’d As Rider In Wednesday Fort Lee Fatal Motorcycle Crash

PRINCE GEORGE COUNTY, VA. (THECOUNT) — Joseph Skinner, of Hopewell, Virginia, has been identified as the victim in a fatal motorcycle crash late Wednesday night near Fort Lee, Virginia, according to authorities. Skinner was 27.

The collision occurred at approximately 11 p.m. May 13 at the intersection of Jefferson Park Road and Owens Way in Prince George County, located south of Richmond near the Fort Lee military installation.

According to Prince George Police, “Joey” Skinner was operating a 2016 Kawasaki motorcycle when it collided with a 2017 Genesis sedan at the intersection.

Authorities said Skinner sustained fatal injuries in the crash.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators have not publicly released details explaining how the collision occurred.

The driver of the Genesis sedan sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Bon Secours Southside Medical Center in Petersburg for treatment.

Officials have not publicly identified the driver of the sedan.

Emergency responders from multiple agencies arrived at the scene following reports of the collision and worked overnight while investigators documented evidence and cleared the roadway.

The intersection of Jefferson Park Road and Owens Way remained closed for several hours during the on-scene investigation.

Authorities confirmed the roadway reopened prior to the Wednesday morning commute.

Police have not publicly stated whether speed, impairment, distraction, traffic signals, or roadway conditions may have contributed to the collision.

Investigators also have not released information regarding whether Skinner was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The Kawasaki motorcycle sustained severe damage in the collision, according to authorities at the scene.

Motorcycle crashes involving passenger vehicles at intersections frequently result in catastrophic injuries due to the limited protection available to riders during impact events.

Prince George County is located along the Interstate 95 corridor in central Virginia and includes roadways heavily traveled by both local motorists and traffic connected to the Fort Lee military area.

Authorities are continuing to examine evidence, witness statements, and roadway conditions as part of the ongoing crash investigation.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or who may possess information related to the crash to contact Prince George Police at (804) 733-2773.

Tips may also be submitted through the P3Tips mobile application.

No additional information was immediately released.
