Today’s Hot Hits – 7/27

Ahhhhh Monday.  The bane of my existence.  Let’s just get into the stories guaranteed to make news today.

Here are some upcoming stories to count on for Monday, July 27:

• Guinea pigs beat Harry Potter!  Guinea pigs!  How much money did G Force really make and how far did Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince fall?  We’ll find out later today when the concrete numbers come out.  But make sure to put your money on the guinea pigs.

• Contract negotiations are still underway with Paula Abdul.  The big question is will she return to American Idol next season?  Fox may not be publicly speaking about the negotiations but they are definitely underway.  I think Paula will come back and I think the announcement will be soon.  We’ll find out.

• Comic Con made a lot of news this weekend.  Expect a bunch of summations and follow-ups today.  Personally, I really want to see the Iron Man 2 footage that was shown.

Harry Potter Made $159 M Since Wednesday

Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince

Well, it was successful but not as successful as some had hoped for.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince has made a whopping $159.7 million since Wednesday. While that’s super duper successful, it’s only $20 million more than Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Holy cow, they need to come out with shorter titles).  So while the movie debuted to record numbers, it seems to have leveled out during the weekend.  Still, well done muggles.

Don’t get me wrong, these are dynamite numbers.  However, it doesn’t look like Harry Potter can overcome the mammoth numbers of Transformers.  Which is a shame, because the new Harry Potter movie is a million times better than the new Transformers movie — and I haven’t even seen the new Harry Potter movie!

The film has also earned $237 million in international markets so it’s off to a crackerjack start.  Will it end up being the biggest Harry Potter film yet?  That’s very possible but only time will tell.

Today’s Hot Hits – 7/20

Yo yo yo, welcome to the workweek, guys.  Did your weekend treat you well?  Mine was great.  Let’s get into some news stories that are sure to be hot today.

Here are some upcoming stories to count on for Monday, July 20:

• Harry Potter delivered on his promise this weekend, bringing in millions and millions of bucks at the box office.  We’ll get a solid number today and see what it’ll take to conquer Transformers.

• 

  Abdul

  A lot has been made about contract negotiations with Paula Abdul. Some are saying that the star will not come back to American Idol this season.  Maybe things will get cleared up today and we’ll find out if Ms. Abdul will return.

• The footage of Michael Jackson’s last rehearsals are driving studio heads crazy.  Everybody wants a piece of it.  The Jackson family isn’t interested in selling it but it’s got to go somewhere.  Will it be locked up forever or is someone going to get their hands on it and let the world see?

Today’s Hot Hits – 7/17

Friday is here!  Hooray!  The sun is out, the weekend is calling and summer is in full swing. Who wants to go swimming?

Here are some upcoming stories to count on for Friday, July 17:

Barton

• Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is cleaning up at the box office.  It made over $50 million in its first day and probably made a bunch more yesterday.  We’ll see just how much this morning.  Any guesses?  Well, Stay tuned for the answer.

• Mischa Barton is apparently going through a tough time.  Will we get an official statement from her publicist before the weekend starts?  How long will she be in the hospital for?  Just what exactly happened?

• And most importantly, will we get any more pictures of Jon Gosselin looking like a tool today?  Gosh, he hasn’t been impressing me lately.

Harry Potter Makes $58.4 M In Its First Day

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince made many people happy yesterday, especially Warner Brothers.  The blockbuster film made a whopping $58.4 million in its opening day, including its record-breaking $22 million from midnight shows alone.  That makes it the second-best Wednesday ever.  The best Wednesday ever? That belongs to those giant robots from Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

The biggest one-day take for a film still belongs to The Dark Knight, with $67.2 million.

The last Potter film, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, made $44 million on its first day (also a Wednesday) so this movie is sure to pass that in box office receipts.  We’ll see if it can break any weekend records set by Transformers only last month.

Harry Potter Kid Guilty Producing Marijuana

The kid who plays Vincent Crabby in the Harry Potter franchise got busted for, not a sack-o-weed, but 10 grass plants! all growing at his mum’s house no less!

Jamie Waylett plead guilty along with a buddy in Westminster Magistrates’ Court, London, to producing cannabis.

At least now we know some of the inspiration they use to produce those trippy Harry Potter flicks!

Today’s Hot Hits – 7/16

Morning folks.  I had a barbecue last night and it was delicious.  But I think I ate too much because I feel like I’m 300 pounds.  Anyway, on with the developing news.

Here are some upcoming stories to count on for Thursday, July 16:

• 

  Emmy

  Emmy nominations are out this morning and we’ve got a lot to look for.  Will the smash hit True Blood garner some nominations?  What about exiting shows such as ER and The Shield (one of my favorite shows ever)?  What surprises will be revealed?  Who’ll get snubbed?  This will definitely be a big pop culture news story.

• Harry Potter was raking in the cash during its midnight shows Tuesday night.  How much money do you think it made Wednesday?  I wouldn’t be surprised if it broke quite a few records today.  Look out for just how much money the kid wizard made on Wednesday.

• We’ve been hearing talk that the LAPD is now treating Michael Jackson’s death as a homicide?  Do you think we’ll hear more about that today?  Will we get any official word from authorities?  Expect more speculation and rumors.

UPDATED: Harry Potter Breaks Midnight Records

UPDATE: The midnight haul was actually $22 million.  Mamma mia, that’s a lot of money.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince had an amazing performance last night.  You could even say it was — wait for it — magical.

The new Potter film made $20 million $22 million dollars at the midnight screenings last night.  That is officially the greatest midnight opening in history, beating the last record holder, The Dark Knight, by about $2 million.

It’s also surprising because the last Potter flick, Order of the Phoenix, had an impressive if not ground-breaking $12 million midnight showing.  It looks like that long gap between the two films might really be helping business.

I can attest to the massive anticipation.  Last night, when walking by a very popular theater here in L.A., I saw a line that was nearly a block long and it was only 7 PM.

We’ll see how much this puppy makes in the following days but it definitely has the best start of all time.

Here are some upcoming stories to count on for Wednesday, July 15:

  I walked by a movie theater last night and there were a lot of people waiting outside for the new Harry Potter movie.  We’ll get the midnight numbers today.  Expect to read lots and lots of zeros.  This thing’s going to be huge.

• The Debbie Rowe chronicles continue.  The mother of MJ’s kids is now denying she took a pay-off to give them up.  This’ll be sure to develop today.

• What the heck is going on with Jon Gosselin?  This guy is now a clothing designer?  And what’s up with his new girlfriend?  Will more risky photos of her come to light today?  This thing looks like it’ll get messier and messier.
