UNION CITY, N.J. (THECOUNT) — Dennis Locorriere, the longtime lead vocalist and front man of the rock band Dr. Hook, has died at the age of 76, according to a statement released by his management.
Management confirmed Locorriere died peacefully on May 16, 2026, surrounded by loved ones following what was described as a “long and courageous battle” with kidney disease.
The statement said Locorriere faced his illness with “remarkable strength, dignity, and resilience.”
Representatives also stated he remained deeply loved by family, friends, and fans throughout his life and career.
Born in Union City, New Jersey, Locorriere later relocated to the United Kingdom, where he reportedly lived for the past 24 years.
Throughout his career, Locorriere became widely recognized as the signature voice behind Dr. Hook, the internationally successful rock group known for a string of popular hits during the 1970s and 1980s.
His vocals were featured on songs including “Sylvia’s Mother,” “Carry Me, Carrie,” “A Little Bit More,” and “When You’re In Love With A Beautiful Woman.”
Locorriere spent nearly six decades in the music industry.
During that time, he recorded more than 18 albums through his work with Dr. Hook as well as through solo projects.
He also collaborated with numerous musicians, songwriters, and performers while touring extensively throughout the United States, Europe, and other international markets.
Dr. Hook achieved worldwide commercial success with a sound that blended rock, pop, and country influences.
The group earned a loyal fanbase through both chart success and extensive touring.
Locorriere continued performing and interacting with fans during his years living in the United Kingdom.
Management said he will be remembered for both his musical contributions and his personal warmth toward those closest to him.
The statement also requested privacy for Locorriere’s family and loved ones following his death.
