Rider Killed In Saturday Night Port Orange Motorcycle Crash

PORT ORANGE, FL. (THECOUNT) — A motorcycle rider was killed Saturday night after a collision with a sport utility vehicle at a Port Orange intersection, according to the Port Orange Police Department. The identity of the victim has not been released, citing the ongoing investigation.

Officers responded at approximately 8:55 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2026, to the intersection of South Ridgewood Avenue and Kirby Place following reports of a traffic collision.

Upon arrival, officers located the motorcycle rider with fatal injuries. The rider was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the SUV involved in the collision was not injured and remained at the scene following the crash.

Port Orange Police Department Traffic Homicide investigators assumed responsibility for the crash investigation.

Port Orange is a city in Volusia County, situated along Florida’s Atlantic Coast immediately south of Daytona Beach. The city is part of the Deltona–Daytona Beach–Ormond Beach metropolitan statistical area and is home to approximately 65,000 residents, making it one of the larger municipalities in Volusia County.

South Ridgewood Avenue, also designated as U.S. Route 1, is a major north-south arterial corridor running the length of Port Orange and connecting the city to neighboring communities including South Daytona to the north and Edgewater to the south. The roadway carries significant daily traffic volume as one of the primary surface routes along Florida’s east-central coast.

Kirby Place intersects South Ridgewood Avenue in a residential and mixed-use section of Port Orange. The area is typical of the corridor, which transitions between commercial strips and residential neighborhoods throughout its length in the city.

Motorcycle fatalities remain a significant concern across Volusia County and the broader state of Florida. Florida consistently ranks among the highest states in the nation for motorcycle crash fatalities, due in part to year-round riding conditions and high traffic volumes on both urban corridors and rural highways. Volusia County, with its mix of resort traffic, retiree population, and active motorcycle culture tied in part to the annual Daytona Bike Week and Biketoberfest events, sees a disproportionate share of motorcycle-involved crashes statewide.

Traffic homicide investigations in Florida are handled by specially trained law enforcement officers who document crash scenes, interview witnesses, collect physical evidence, and work with the medical examiner’s office when fatalities are involved. These investigations can take weeks or months to complete before a final determination of cause and any potential charges are made.

Investigators are actively seeking witnesses to the crash. Anyone with information is urged to contact Traffic Homicide Investigator Officer Garay at 386-506-5838.

The crash scene is located at the intersection of South Ridgewood Avenue and Kirby Place in Port Orange, Florida. View approximate crash location on Google Maps. (Location is approximate.)

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
