NY Man Mohammad M. Alamin ID’d As Victim In Wednesday Stockport Fatal Crash

STOCKPORT, N.Y. (THECOUNT) — Mohammad M. Alamin was killed Wednesday night after losing control of his vehicle on State Route 9 in the Town of Stockport, Columbia County, New York, according to the New York State Police.

Alamin was 26 years of age.

The fatal single-vehicle crash occurred just after 10 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, in the area of 829 State Route 9 in the Town of Stockport.

According to a preliminary investigation by New York State Police, Alamin was driving a 2002 Ford southbound on Route 9 when the vehicle left the roadway. The car struck a guide rail on the west side of the road, crossed the northbound lane, and then struck a tree, causing the vehicle to overturn. Alamin was the sole occupant of the vehicle. Members of the Stockport Volunteer Fire Company extricated Alamin from the wreckage. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Columbia County Coroner’s Office responded to assist.

Route 9 was closed in the area until approximately 11:30 p.m. while crews worked the scene. New York State Police were assisted by the Greenport Rescue Squad and the Columbia County Fire Coordinator’s Office.

Alamin was a resident of Hudson, New York.

State Route 9 is a major north-south highway running through Columbia County along the eastern bank of the Hudson River, connecting communities from the New York City metropolitan area northward through the Hudson Valley to the Capital Region. In the Town of Stockport, the route passes through a mix of rural farmland, wooded hillsides, and small residential areas. The highway is a primary surface route for commuters and travelers in Columbia County, parallel to the more limited-access Taconic State Parkway to the east.

The Town of Stockport is a rural township in Columbia County located immediately north of the city of Hudson, the county seat. Hudson is a city of approximately 6,000 residents situated along the western bank of the Hudson River approximately 30 miles south of Albany and 110 miles north of New York City. Columbia County borders Dutchess County to the south, Greene County across the Hudson River to the west, Rensselaer County to the north, and the Massachusetts state line to the east. The county is part of the greater Hudson Valley region and has a population of approximately 60,000 residents.

The New York State Police investigation is ongoing. No further information has been released.
