SACRAMENTO, CA. (THECOUNT) — A horrifying domestic violence incident in Sacramento has left a one-year-old boy dead and his father, Andrey Demskiy, accused of his brutal murder. Authorities have identified the victim as Micah Demskiy, whose life was cut short on Dec. 20 in what officials are calling one of the most shocking cases they have encountered.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) reported that deputies responded to a 911 call around 4:15 a.m. regarding a family disturbance. Upon arrival, the child’s father, 28-year-old Andrey Demskiy, allegedly assaulted his wife and mother-in-law before barricading himself inside the home with Micah.
When deputies forced their way inside, they discovered the toddler had been beheaded. The SCSO stated that Demskiy used a knife to commit the heinous act. He was described as “uncooperative” and “physically resistive” upon arrest.
Demskiy now faces charges including murder, assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury, and corporal injury to a spouse or cohabitant. He remains in custody at the Sacramento County Main Jail without bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 24.
The child’s mother, Angelina Demskiy, and her family are left grappling with the unimaginable loss. Angelina’s mother was hospitalized for non-life-threatening injuries sustained during the incident.
A GoFundMe campaign, organized by family friend Lilli Eirikh, has raised over $57,000 to support the grieving family, surpassing its initial $25,000 goal. The fundraiser described Micah as a “kind and joyful soul” who loved spending time with his family, going to the park, and singing hymns.
Via GoFundMe:
On the 20th of December, our sweet boy, Micah Demskiy, met with the Lord. A devastating chain of events unraveled, causing the death of a one-year-old son of Angelina Demskiy.
The sweet little boy was a kind and joyful soul, loving all people and especially dogs. His kind heart and beautiful smile warmed the hearts of everyone he came in contact with. He loved his family and especially his mama. He loved being with family, going to the park, and singing hymns with his family.
If you have it on your heart to help our family in this difficult time, please keep us in your prayers.
If you’re able to help financially, may God bless you threefold. If you are not able to help financially, please pray for the Demskiy and Vinnikov families! Please share this with your friends and family.
The community has erected a memorial outside the family’s home, featuring flowers, candles, and teddy bears. Amar Gandhi, spokesperson for the SCSO, described the tragedy as “one of the most horrific things” in his two decades of service. “For this family who has got to pick up the pieces and go on — I mean, their world is shattered,” he said.
Authorities continue to investigate the events leading up to the incident, which they described as a “devastating chain of events.” The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office is working with detectives on the case, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation has been notified due to the severity of the crime.
As the family mourns the loss of their beloved Micah, Eirikh concluded her statement by asking for prayers and continued support. “If you’re able to help financially, may God bless you threefold. If not, please pray for the Demskiy and Vinnikov families.”
