TX Man William Goodwin ID’d As Pedestrian In Tuesday Lubbock Fatal Vehicle Strike

LUBBOCK, TX. (THECOUNT) — William Goodwin has been identified as the victim in a fatal early-morning crash involving a pedestrian and a semi-truck along Interstate 27 in Lubbock, Texas, according to authorities.

Goodwin was 67. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Lubbock Police Department Major Crash Unit is actively investigating the collision, which occurred Tuesday, April 7, at approximately 3:15 a.m. along the 500 block of I-27. Officers were initially dispatched following reports of a crash involving a pedestrian with injuries.

Upon arrival, responding officers located Goodwin in the roadway. Emergency responders determined he had sustained fatal injuries and he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

According to preliminary findings released by LPD, Goodwin had been standing in the northbound lanes of Interstate 27 when he was struck by a passing semi-truck. The circumstances leading up to why Goodwin was in the roadway at that hour have not been disclosed.

Investigators noted in an official release that there is no indication at this time that the driver of the semi-truck was at fault in the collision. No charges or citations have been announced, and the driver remained at the scene following the incident.

The stretch of Interstate 27 where the incident occurred runs through the central portion of Lubbock, a major regional hub in West Texas and home to Texas Tech University. The corridor is a heavily trafficked route for both commercial trucking and local commuters, particularly during overnight and early morning hours when long-haul transport activity is common.

Fatal crashes involving pedestrians on interstate highways are relatively uncommon but often result in severe outcomes due to high vehicle speeds and limited visibility. Authorities have not yet released information regarding lighting conditions, traffic flow, or whether impairment or other contributing factors may have played a role.

The LPD Major Crash Unit continues to gather evidence, including scene reconstruction and witness statements if available, as part of its ongoing investigation. Officials have not indicated whether additional information will be released pending further review.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has relevant information is encouraged to contact the Lubbock Police Department as the investigation remains open.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
