HOUMA, LA. (THECOUNT) — On December 22, 2024, at around 9:00 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop C began investigating a two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 24 near Terminal Road, in Houma which resulted in one fatality. The crash involved 35-year-old Yassir Parrales of Chauvin and 25-year-old Kali Lirette.
The preliminary investigation indicates that Lirette was driving a 2019 Ford EcoSport north on LA Hwy 24 while Parrales was driving a 2018 Nissan Altima south. The Ford EcoSport crossed the centerline as it entered a right curve, leading to a head-on collision with the Nissan Altima.
Parrales, who was wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene. Lirette, also belted, sustained critical injuries and was taken to a hospital outside the area.
Toxicology samples were collected from both drivers for analysis.
The investigation into the cause of the crash continues.
Impaired, distracted, and inattentive driving are noted as common causes of accidents in Louisiana. Driving sober and without distractions can significantly reduce crash risks.
