JACKSON COUNTY, MO. (THECOUNT) — Rachel Keltner Stone, of Lee’s, Missouri, has been identified as the victim in a Thursday morning fatal vehicle collision in Jackson County.
Stone, 47, a Health and Physical Education Teacher at Lee’s Summit R-7 School District, was killed in a vehicle crash involving a semi-tractor Thursday morning in Lee’s Summit.
According to reports, Stone was operating Chevrolet Malibu on US-59 near Missouri Route 7 in Lee’s Summit, when for unknown reasons, a Freightliner big-rig crossed centerlines and came into head-on contact with the Malibu around 6:45 a.m. Thursday.
Stone was pronounced dead of blunt force trauma injuries at the scene.
Stone attended Lee’s Summit before being employed at the school district for 25 years.
“This is truly a sad day for LSHS, and for our area’s education community,” the school said in a statement. “Please join us in keeping the Stone family in your thoughts as we work to support each other in the coming days.”
Stone leaves behind her husband Robert, who is a teacher at Bernard Campbell Middle School, and two children.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
