SOMERSET COUNTY, ME. (THECOUNT) — Shawn Chamberlain has been identified as the victim in a fatal snowmobile crash in northern Somerset County, Maine, Saturday evening.
Chamberlain, 38, was killed after crashing on a snowmobile in Somerset County Saturday around 5 p.m.
According to officials, Chamberlain was operating a snowmobile traveling on ITS 88 in Taunton & Raynham Academy Grant at around 5 p.m. when he failed to negotiate a turn and struck a tree.
Chamberlain’s riding partner witnessed the crash and began CPR immediately, then flagged down a passing vehicle to call 911. Maine Game Wardens and Emergency Medical personnel arrived at the scene and continued CPR, reports WMTW.
Chamberlain was pronounced dead at 5:20 p.m.
Game wardens believe that speed and alcohol were contributing factors in the crash, but the incident remains under investigation at this time.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
