FL Woman Jeanie Rozar ID’d As Pedestrian Killed After ‘Entangled’ By Jacksonville City Bus Saturday

JACKSONVILLE, FL. (THECOUNT) — Jeanie L Rozar has been identified as the pedestrian killed Saturday following an incident involving a Jacksonville city bus, according to police and witnesses.

Rozar, 51, died after she was run over Saturday by a JTA bus on Ocean Street in Mayport, a community of Jacksonville, Florida.

Officials said Rozar died Saturday after attempting to exit the bus and becoming entangled with the door, according to police and witnesses.

According to First Coast News, Rozar’s arm became stuck in the door as she was exiting the bus.

“When [the bus driver] realized her arm was in the door, he stopped the bus and opened the door,” the witness said. “When he opened the door, her arm came out and she got caught up under the bus.”

JTA released a statement saying the name of the bus driver is being withheld as the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office investigates the incident. The driver has been placed on a “Hold Off” status, meaning he has been removed from service and will remain so until the investigation is complete, according to JTA, reports FirstCoastNews.

JTA Media and Public Relations Manager, David Cawton II, released the following statement about the incident:

“The Jacksonville Transportation Authority would like to express our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased. The safety and security of our customers, employees and the community is paramount. We are cooperating with the JSO’s ongoing investigation to get to the bottom of what happened.”

It is unclear if the bus driver is facing any charges.
