LAS VEGAS, NV. (THECOUNT) — Las Vegas men, Christopher Markley, and Robert Jay Barns, have been identified as the victims in a fatal multi-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 93 Wednesday morning.
Markley, 34, and Barns, 50, both died from multiple blunt force injuries after a vehicle they were traveling, was struck by a semi-truck whose driver later admitted to “drowsy driving,” according to the coroner’s office.
Nevada Highway Patrol said a semi-truck driver admitted to “drowsy driving” Wednesday morning when he struck multiple vehicles resulting in the death of Markley and Barns.
The crash was reported just after 6 a.m. on U.S. 93 and mile marker 63, near Interstate 15. According to Trooper Jason Buratczuk, of Nevada Highway Patrol, motorists were stopped for a flagger in a construction zone when a semi-truck struck the vehicles. The semi-truck hit the Toyota Corolla that Markley and Barns were traveling in, Buratczuk said. They were ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. The truck then hit a Nissan, another semi-truck and a Chevrolet Malibu. source
Three others were transported to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries, including the at-fault driver of the semi-truck, according to officials.
Authorities indicated the driver of the semi-truck could face charges in the crash while noting it will be up to crash investigators and the DA.
The crash remains under investigation.
