Virgil Mitchell has been identified as the man seen in a disturbing Facebook Live video allegedly dangling a child upside down over a bathtub. He was apprehended on an unrelated charge in Arizona.
The shocking video shows Mitchell, 37, hoisting a toddler up and down while over a bathtub. The child can be seen screaming as he is slammed against the tub enclosure. The video, largely seen in Bakersfield, CA., circulated on social media overnight before coming to the attention of law enforcement.
Local news outlets reported receiving calls from concerned viewers who had watched the video.
During investigation, officials determined Mitchell to be the person of interest in the case, according to local reports.
Kern County Sheriff’s Office confirms Mitchell was arrested by Maricopa County Sheriff‘s Office for an unrelated probation violation Thursday morning.
Officials cannot determine where or when the video occurred but said the investigation is ongoing.
It is unclear child was injured during the filming of the video. The child’s identity and current condition is unknown.
