Canaan Johnson of Fort Myers, Florida has been named as the man killed in a boating accident. He was 40.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation confirmed that a man died while boating off of Pine Island near Hemp Key on Sunday. Reports say the watercraft was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck a sandbar in shallow water. Canaan was ejected and then struck by the boat.
Multiple people were on board the boat, although the exact number has not been released. Nobody else was injured in the incident.source
According to FWC, the accident happened around 5:30 p.m. and responders found the boat about 30 to 40 minutes later. Responders had difficulty getting to the boat due to shallow water.
Family members and friends took to social media to remember Johnson.
