Alabama State Troopers have identified Debra Askew as one of the victims of a fatal multi-vehicle crash that happened on U.S. Highway 231 Monday afternoon. Askew was a pastor, along with her husband, Dr. Anthony Askew, (also pictured,) at Christian Life Church-Troy in Alabama.
Trooper Kevin Cook with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency says Askew, 61 of Brundidge, was identified as one of the victims. Her passengers, Robert C. Pecnick, 49, and his wife Suzette, 46, of St. Augustine, FL, were also killed.
Askew was critically injured when the 2005 Lexus she was driving struck a Hyundai driven by Robert Pecnick. Askew was transported to Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan where she died a short time later. Both Robert and Suzette Pecnick were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the third vehicle, a Navstar tractor-trailer, was not injured. The crash happened near mile marker 58, which is at the Pike-Coffee county line.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends at this difficult time.
