FL Man Tyler Deshommes ID’d As Driver In Wednesday Eagle Lake Fatal Crash

EAGLE LAKE, FL. (THECOUNT) — Tyler Deshommes, of Winter Haven, Florida, has been identified as the victim in a fatal single-vehicle crash Wednesday night in the Eagle Lake area, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. Deshommes was 28.

The crash occurred at approximately 9:25 p.m. on May 6 near the intersection of U.S. Highway 17 and Winter Lake Road/North Cameron Road in Eagle Lake, a community located in central Polk County between Winter Haven and Bartow.

According to investigators, Deshommes was operating a gray Toyota Camry traveling eastbound on Winter Lake Road at a high rate of speed prior to the collision. Authorities said witness statements and physical evidence collected at the scene indicate the vehicle approached the intersection of U.S. 17 and failed to stop for a red traffic signal.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said the Camry subsequently struck a sidewalk near the intersection, causing the vehicle to become airborne for approximately 50 feet.

After leaving the roadway, the vehicle continued traveling east across an open field before entering a wooded area, according to investigators. Authorities said the vehicle then traveled an additional estimated 200 feet through the wooded terrain while striking multiple trees.

The force of the crash resulted in Deshommes being ejected from the vehicle. Officials reported that he was wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision.

Deshommes sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by responding emergency personnel.

No other vehicles were reported to be directly involved in the collision, and no additional injuries were immediately reported.

The intersection of U.S. Highway 17 and Winter Lake Road is a heavily traveled corridor in the Eagle Lake area that serves commuters traveling between Winter Haven, Bartow, and surrounding Polk County communities. The roadway includes multiple traffic control points and experiences consistent evening traffic volume.

Authorities closed portions of the area while investigators with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Investigations Unit processed the scene and documented evidence.

High-speed crashes involving roadway departures often require extensive reconstruction efforts as investigators examine factors including speed, vehicle trajectory, roadway markings, impact points, and environmental conditions.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the investigation remains active and ongoing.
