Former Texas Mayor Bert Henry Teen Son ID’d As Victim In Wednesday Temple Fatal Shooting

TEMPLE, TX. (THECOUNT) — Ember Henry, of Salado, Texas, has been identified as the victim in a fatal shooting discovered Wednesday morning in Temple, according to police. Henry, son of former Salado mayor Bert Henry, was 18.

The investigation began Tuesday night when officers with the Temple Police Department responded at approximately 9 p.m. to reports of shots fired in the 1300 block of Paseo Del Oro, a residential area in Temple located within Bell County.

According to authorities, responding officers canvassed the area after receiving the initial shots-fired call but were unable to immediately locate a crime scene or identify anyone suffering from injuries.

Police said officers returned to the same location at approximately 8 a.m. Wednesday after receiving a request for an urgent welfare check.

Upon arrival, officers located Henry suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Authorities confirmed he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators have not released details regarding the circumstances leading up to the shooting, including how long Henry may have been at the location before being discovered Wednesday morning.

No arrests have been announced, and authorities have not publicly identified any suspects in the case.

The Temple Police Department continued processing the scene throughout Wednesday as investigators gathered evidence, documented the area, and interviewed potential witnesses.

A GoFundMe was started to help family members with expenses.

Paseo Del Oro is located in a residential portion of Temple, a Bell County city situated along the Interstate 35 corridor between Austin and Waco. The surrounding area consists primarily of residential neighborhoods, connecting roadways, and local traffic routes commonly used by area residents.

Temple serves as one of Central Texas’ larger regional communities and regularly coordinates investigations involving violent crimes through local law enforcement and regional agencies.

Authorities have not indicated whether the shooting occurred during an altercation or if Henry was specifically targeted. Investigators also have not disclosed whether additional individuals were present in the area at the time shots were reportedly fired Tuesday night.

The delay between the initial shots-fired report and the discovery of the victim remains part of the ongoing investigation.

Law enforcement officials are asking members of the public to come forward with any information that could assist investigators in reconstructing the events leading up to the shooting.

Anyone with information regarding the case is urged to contact the Temple Police Department at 254-298-5500 or Bell County Crime Stoppers at 254-526-8477. Authorities said tips may be submitted anonymously.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
