Young Mother of Infant ID’d as Victim in Mission Viejo Street Racing Crash, Brother Arrested

MISSION VIEJO, CA. (THECOUNT) — Shalia Deciderio, 21, of Rancho Santa Margarita, California, was killed Thursday night when the Nissan Infiniti in which she was riding crashed into a tree during an alleged street race in Mission Viejo, according to information provided about the crash. Her younger brother, Aiden Deciderio, was arrested in connection with the incident after authorities said he was driving another Infiniti involved in the alleged race.

The fatal crash occurred at approximately 9:41 p.m. Thursday near Los Alisos Boulevard and Mustang Run. Deciderio was riding as a passenger in an Infiniti driven by Jaime Rojas, 20, of Mission Viejo, when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree.

Deciderio was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rojas survived the collision and was transported for medical treatment, where he was reported to be in critical but stable condition. He is facing charges, according to investigators.

Investigators allege that Rojas’ vehicle was involved in a street race with another Nissan Infiniti being driven by Aiden. The younger Deciderio was subsequently arrested and booked Friday morning.

Authorities indicated that Aiden could face a charge of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence in connection with his sister’s death. Rojas is also expected to be booked following his release from the hospital.

The circumstances surrounding the alleged race and the events immediately preceding the crash remain under investigation. The available information did not indicate whether additional people were involved or whether further charges would be filed.
