Police have identified John Felix as the man suspected of fatally shooting two Palm Springs police officers and injuring another, officials announced today.
Felix, 26, is a resident of Palm Springs Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said. The slain officers are Jose Gilbert Vega, a 35-year veteran and Lesley Zerebny, who had just returned to duty after giving birth four months ago.
Palm Springs Police Chief Bryan Reyes said a woman called police at about 12:18 p.m. on Saturday to report that her son was causing a disturbance in the 2700 block of Cypress Road. According to authorities, four officers arrived at the scene and Felix would not open the door to the home, threatening to shoot the officers. Continue reading
Korryn Gaines is a Maryland woman who was shot dead by Baltimore County Police. Her 5-year-old son was also shot and wounded during a shootout. Gaines was involved in an hours-long standoff with police.
Gaines, 23, of Randallstown, was pronounced dead after being shot in the head. Her young son suffered non-life-threatening injuries. It is not yet known if the boy was shot by officers or by Gaines, according to police.
Police said Gaines was armed with a “long gun” and exchanged fire with officers after several hours of negotiations. Gaines was wanted on failure to appear warrants for an “array of traffic charges” stemming from a March 2016 traffic stop. Continue reading
Jelani Maraj, the brother Nicki Minaj, has been offered a revised plea deal in his child rape case after DNA found on the alleged 12-year-old victim’s clothing matched his semen. Before the DNA evidence became available, Maraj was offered 7 years in prison, however, he declined to accept the deal. The new deal is now offering a minimum of 15 years.
A grand jury indicted Maraj in December on felony child rape charges, including predatory sexual assault against a child and first degree sexual conduct against a child. The accuser reportedly told authorities that Maraj repeatedly raped and sodomized her between April 1 and November 30, 2015.
Earlier this week, the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office told the judge: “A DNA profile, a partial profile matching the defendant or consistent with the defendant, your honor, to the point in the hundreds of billionths of chance of it being any other individual, was discovered in the pantsof the complainant in this case, and also tested positive indicating the presence of semen. The family of a missing Oregon woman, Kaylee Sawyer, received some bad news overnight when investigators reported that her disappearance is now being treated as a murder investigation.
Sawyer, 23, is 5-foot 2-inches tall, weighing 120 pounds, with blonde hair and blue-green eyes. She was last seen wearing a black dress and brown boots, and she was carrying a green purse. In a statement, the Destiny Project, a volunteer group who are leading the search for Sawyer, said;

The jumper has brought traffic down to one lane in both directions of the 110 Freeway which is causing massive gridlock.

Kyle Johnson, the man charged in Tuesday’s fatal home invasion attack on an Erie woman, has been found dead in his prison cell Sunday afternoon, Erie County District Attorney Jack Daneri confirmed.
EMS were called to the Erie County Prison around 3 p.m. Sunday and pronounced Johnson dead. Authorities are conducting an investigation into the cause of the death.
Johnson, 25, was arraigned on amended charges, including criminal homicide and murder in the first degree, after Kum Miller passed away from her injuries Saturday morning at UPMC Hamot. Continue reading
Six grandkids have become the internet’s most wanted fugitives after a photo went viral of their grandfather, PaPaw, looking disappointed after they skipped a dinner he prepared especially for them.
Kelsey Harmon, a college student from Oklahoma, who did show up to PaPaw’s dinner, tweeted the photo Wednesday, saying:

At least five people, four females and one man, are repeatedly dead after a mass shooting happened at a party in the eastern Pittsburgh suburb of Wilkinsburg Wednesday night. At least seven were struck.
Neighbors said they heard at least 25 shots coming from several different directions. Arriving police found dozens of shell cases. Four men were said to have fled the scene. No one is in custody.
