Norfolk Police said Hannah has been provisionally identified pending formal inquest proceedings. Mark was charged with her murder Tuesday following the police investigation and appeared before Norwich Magistrates’ Court Wednesday.
Hannah worked as a general practitioner at Grimston Medical Centre and was known professionally as Dr. Hannah Terry. She served in a pool of doctors regularly on call for members of the royal family when they were in the area near Sandringham, according to reporting by The Sun and ITV News. Sources told The Sun that she had treated senior royals, including Queen Camilla.
King Charles and Queen Camilla were reportedly informed of Hannah’s death.
Mark is a self-employed director of Mammoth Energy Solutions Ltd., according to The Times. Hannah and Mark shared three sons, born in 2013, 2015 and 2018.
Hannah had been hosting a sleepover for her children’s friends at the family home Saturday night before she was found dead the following morning, according to The Times and The Telegraph.
Prosecutor Jackie Hanlon told Norwich Magistrates’ Court that the ambulance service contacted police at approximately 2:25 a.m. Sunday after Hannah was found in an upstairs bedroom not breathing and unconscious. Children were present in the property at the time, the court was told.
Hanlon said a post-mortem examination noted a blunt-force injury to the right side of Hannah’s head and an injury that could be suggestive of compression of the neck. Norfolk Police said the cause of death remains pending further investigation.
Mark was not asked to enter a plea during Wednesday’s brief court appearance. He was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear at King’s Lynn Crown Court Thursday, Oct. 8.
The Crown Prosecution Service said it decided to prosecute Mark for Hannah’s murder following the Norfolk Police investigation. The CPS reminded that the proceedings are active and Mark has the right to a fair trial.
Grimston Medical Centre temporarily closed following Hannah’s death, saying it would not comment on the circumstances and that official updates would come from Norfolk Police. Specialist officers are supporting Hannah’s family, who have asked for privacy.
