VIDEO: Knicks Fans Riot Near MSG Destroy FIFA Transport Buses Following NBA Finals Win

NEW YORK, NY. (THECOUNT) — Tens of thousands of New York Knicks fans flooded streets surrounding Madison Square Garden following the team’s NBA Finals victory Saturday night, resulting in dozens of arrests, multiple injuries, a reported shooting, several stabbings, and widespread property damage across Midtown Manhattan.

According to the New York Police Department, large crowds began forming during the game and expanded significantly after the Knicks secured the win.

Authorities said crowds stretched from Fifth Avenue to Ninth Avenue and eventually swelled to tens of thousands of people in the area surrounding Madison Square Garden and Times Square.

As celebrations continued into the overnight hours, police said portions of the crowd became increasingly destructive.

The NYPD reported that five school buses being used to transport passengers between Manhattan and MetLife Stadium for FIFA World Cup events were either set on fire or severely damaged by individuals wielding bats and climbing on the vehicles.

Police also reported extensive damage to NYPD vehicles and privately owned automobiles.

According to officials, individuals were observed striking police vehicles with bats, jumping on roofs and hoods, and shattering windows and windshields.

The NYPD said 63 people were arrested in connection with the disturbances.

Charges included assault on a police officer, criminal possession of a weapon, criminal mischief, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and obstruction of governmental administration.

Authorities also reported a shooting near West 43rd Street and Broadway.

Police said a 17-year-old victim was transported to a hospital by NYPD officers after emergency medical personnel were unable to access the area because of crowd congestion.

A firearm was recovered at the scene, and investigators took three persons of interest into custody.

The NYPD additionally reported four separate slashing or stabbing incidents during the unrest.

Ten police officers sustained injuries while responding to the disturbances.

Officials said one officer was punched in the face, while another was struck by a glass bottle.

Throughout the evening, large groups were seen igniting fireworks, climbing traffic signals, light poles, scaffolding, and other structures throughout Midtown Manhattan.

Police also reported numerous physical altercations and said major streets were blocked for several hours as crowds refused orders to disperse.

The unrest occurred in the heart of Manhattan, one of the nation’s most densely populated urban centers and a global tourist destination that attracts millions of visitors annually.

The New York Knicks’ championship run generated significant excitement throughout New York City, marking one of the franchise’s most celebrated postseason appearances in decades.

Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing and additional arrests are possible.

Police have not yet released further details regarding the shooting victim, the individuals taken into custody, or the conditions of those injured during the overnight disturbances.
